The project objectives of E-Track are:
  1. To develop a positioning system for animal tracking in the field, compatible with and taking advantage of EGNOS and EDAS services, providing sufficient spatial and temporal accuracy to enable the measurement of animal behaviour;
  2. To develop a generic software application for visualisation and analysis of GNSS position data and other sensors, including data reduction from movement tracks to behavioural patterns;
  3. To integrate all components into a working end-to-end (but modular) system. The system will be tested and demonstrated on different animal species in different habitats;
  4. To conduct field studies with birds and large mammals. The hardware specifications for birds are quite stringent in terms of weight, and spatial and temporal resolution. Large mammals require very robust tags;
  5. Demonstrate the commercial feasibility of the solution;
  6. Assess the relevance and impact of EGNOS for animal behaviour tracking;
  7. Outreach and promotion of EGNOS and GNSS-based animal behaviour analysis in wildlife management.
